A Winter Space for Mothers and Babies to Breathe

Pregnancy, early motherhood, and the months after birth are often described as joyful, yet they are also physically and emotionally demanding. The body is recovering or preparing, the nervous system is recalibrating, and everyday life can feel more intense than usual. In this tender phase, what many mothers truly need is not more stimulation or advice, but space. Space to slow down, to breathe deeply, and to reconnect with themselves and their baby.

At Northern Light Yoga, the Mama and Baby Winter Program was created with this understanding at its core. It is not designed as a quick solution or a fitness goal, but as a supportive winter container where mothers and babies can move gently together, guided by presence, breath, and care.

Running over nine weeks from late January through March, the program offers continuity during a season that naturally invites rest and inward focus. Each Thursday, the studio in Ski welcomes mothers at different stages of motherhood. Whether you are pregnant, newly postpartum, or navigating life with a small child, the program allows you to join in a way that reflects where you are right now.

Yoga during pregnancy and after birth has long been recognized as a safe and holistic practice that supports both physical health and emotional balance. Beyond flexibility and strength, these practices help regulate the nervous system, improve circulation, and create a sense of inner stability. Through slow, repetitive movements and conscious breathing, the body softens, the mind settles, and a quiet connection begins to form, often benefiting both mother and child.

Postnatal yoga offers mothers a way to gently rebuild trust in their bodies after birth. Rather than focusing on performance or recovery timelines, the emphasis is on healing, grounding, and sustainable strength. Baby massage is woven into the sessions, encouraging touch, rhythm, and presence. This not only supports the baby’s sensory and emotional development, but also deepens the bond between parent and child in a calm and natural way.

For mothers with toddlers, movement becomes shared and playful. Rolling, balancing, stretching, and resting together helps children develop coordination and body awareness, while strengthening communication, trust, and emotional connection. These moments of shared movement often become some of the most meaningful experiences for both parent and child.

The program also includes Qigong rehabilitation, a gentle and deeply restorative practice rooted in traditional Chinese medicine. Through slow, flowing movements and breath awareness, Qigong supports energy balance, reduces stress, and helps restore vitality. It is particularly supportive for mothers experiencing fatigue, low energy, or physical strain, offering a quiet yet powerful way to reconnect with the body.

All sessions take place at Northern Light Yoga in Ski, in a calm and welcoming environment where babies are free to be babies. Pauses for feeding, rest, and care are fully integrated into the experience. There is no pressure to keep up and no expectation to perform. The intention is simply to create a space where mothers feel supported, seen, and at ease.

This winter program is not about doing more. It is about doing what truly matters.

Caring for the mother so she can care for her child, and creating a sense of safety, closeness, and balance that both can feel.
